National Waffle Day: Restaurants and cafes around Charlotte serving the best waffles
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day — and if it’s also your favorite one of the day, you’re in for a treat.
Thursday, Aug. 24 is National Waffle Day. The iconic sweet treat, which has been around for centuries, is a popular breakfast staple eaten around the world.
Luckily in Charlotte, there are plenty of places to celebrate the holiday, whether you want waffles plain, topped with fruit, fried chicken or even lobster. Here’s a guide to some of the best restaurants and cafes around town to check out on National Waffle Day.
Cast Iron Waffles

Cast Iron Waffles, located near Ballantyne, serves authentic Belgian liege waffles made fresh daily. There’s several unique waffles on the menu, including The Deluxe, topped with Nutella, strawberries, banana and whipped cream; The Lumberjack made with maple cream and bacon; and more.
Cuzzo’s Cuisine
Location: 9601 N Tryon St suite f, Charlotte, NC 28262
Hours: 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
Cuzzo’s Cuisine, known for its Southern staples and comfort food, has several waffle dishes on the menu. While its Tuckaseegee location is temporarily closed, you can still treat yourself to the beloved breakfast treat in University City. Red velvet, sweet potato and peach cobbler waffles are available with wings, tenders, cream cheese, powdered sugar and fruit toppings.
Famous Toastery

Famous Toastery, based in Huntersville, is a hot spot for all breakfast foods. Aside from flapjacks and french toast, the restaurant also serves classic waffles topped with whipped cream and mixed berry compote.
Holy City Waffles

If you’re looking for waffles on the go, check out Holy City Waffles. The Charlotte food truck serves buttermilk waffles on a popsicle stick with different sweet toppings, like the s’mores waffle, cinnamon roll waffle and the Fruity Pebbles and the Nutella strawberry waffles.
