On National Wear Red Day, New Orleanians can learn CPR

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — February is American Heart Month and Friday, Feb. 2 is National Wear Red Day.

Officials with the American Heart Association said they raise awareness about cardiovascular disease on National Wear Red Day by encouraging supporters to wear red, highlighting women’s leading cause of death.

Rainy and windy Saturday

According to officials with the AHA, one in three women live with some form of cardio disease and it’s on the rise in young women.

As the AHA celebrates its centennial year, officials said they are focusing on CPR.

In New Orleans, families can take an online CPR course, learn and practice Hands-Only CPR, watching a 60-second video to learn Hands-Only CPR or find a certification course near them.

The AHA was established in 1924. It originated from a small group of physicians who were concerned about the lack of information on heart diseases. Today, the AHA is a nationwide organization whose aim is to reduce deaths caused by cardio disease.

THE AMA has curated a “Don’t Drop the Beat” CPR playlist that can be listened to on their Spotify page.

Anyone interested in learning CPR or about heart health can visit the AHA’s website.
