National Weather Service: A chance of light snow for Spartanburg County Friday

The National Weather Service is still predicting light snow for Spartanburg County Friday.

NWS meteorologist Harry Gerapetritis said there was still some uncertainty regarding where the cold front passing through the area Thursday will stall out, but currently the Upstate should expect snow or snow showers with accumulations of up to an inch, with some areas to the east of I-85 seeing up to two inches.

“Spartanburg County could see a range of up to an inch across the northern part of the county, maybe one-two inches in the eastern and southern parts,” Gerapetritis said. “For the city of Spartanburg itself, we have got about an inch of snow forecasted for Friday and Friday night.”

Ice and wind during the storm are not expected to be significant.

However, cold temperatures, predicted in the lower 20s for Friday night, followed by highs in the 30s and lows in the upper teens on Saturday could lead to black ice issues for a few days after the storm.

Spartanburg is still thawing from last Sunday's winter storm, which dumped up to 5.5 inches of snow and sleet in the city of Spartanburg and similar amounts elsewhere, with some areas north of the city getting up to 8 inches.
