One woman dies at the scene of fallen tree at 4000 block of Kedron Road in Spring Hill

A woman was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a fallen tree as a severe thunderstorm swept through Maury County.

Maury County Fire Chief Richard Schatz said firefighters responded to the 4000 block of Kedron Road in Spring Hill. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The National Weather Service said severe storms move through Nashville and the Middle Tennessee region and into Kentucky.

The area is under a slight risk (2 out of 5) for severe weather Thursday. The greatest threat will be along and north of Interstate 40, according to the NWS.

Due to severe weather moving in, Nashville International Airport has issued a ground stop for arriving aircraft. The ground stoppage was lifted at 2:45 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Giles and Lawrence Counties until 4 p.m.

"A few of these may become strong to severe with damaging winds gusts of 60+ mph the main hazard," NWS said.

A flood advisory was issued for Montgomery, Robertson, Sumner and Wilson Counties until 4:15 p.m., according to NWS.

An excessive heat warning issued Wednesday expected to last through Friday was cancelled Thursday afternoon, shortly before 2 p.m.

An excessive heat warning remains in effect Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Excessive heat can be dangerous and put vulnerable people at risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Heat exhaustion can cause dizziness, thirst, heavy sweating, nausea, and weakness and lead to heat stroke.
