LANSING — A dense fog advisory has been issued for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning for southwest and south central Michigan.

Driving could be dangerous because of reduced visibility, although ice on roads is no longer a major concern because precipitation has turned to all rain, the National Weather Service said.

The advisory will be in effect from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 11 a.m. Wednesday in 13 counties, including Clinton, Eaton and Ingham.

LANSING — The National Weather Service has canceled a winter weather advisory for the Lansing area as a mix of precipitation turned to all rain.

The region was under an advisory from late Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon. The advisory initially was set to expire at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Dozens of slide-offs reported

LANSING — Icy roads led to a spate of minor crashes across Greater Lansing on Tuesday, particularly during the morning hours.

As of early afternoon, Lansing police had responded to eight slide-offs or minor crashes, depatment spokeswoman Jordan Gulkis said. None of the incidents resulted in serious injuries, she said.

A school bus slid off the road about 8:30 a.m. on Tecumseh River Drive at North Waverly Road, police said. There were no injuries or property damage.

Throughout the region, police responded to a number of slide-offs or minor crashes in the morning, but no injuries were reported.

The Eaton County Sheriff's Office responded to 26 crashes or slide-offs between about 4 a.m. and 1 p.m., spokeswoman Jerri Nesbitt said. None of the incidents resulted in major injuries, she said.

Small number of outages quickly restored

LANSING — Utility outage maps were showing no major power outages as Greater Lansing endured another round of challenging winter weather.

Consumers Energy had restored power to more than 300 customers affected by an outage on Tuesday morning in the DeWitt area. The utility's outage map showed only one customer without power in the Lansing area.

DTE Energy was reporting no outages in eastern Ingham County, part of its coverage area. The Lansing Board of Water & Light was reporting two outages.

National Weather Service says to expect sloppy, slippery day

DeWITT — More than 300 Consumers Energy customers are without power this morning in the DeWitt area, according to the company's outage map.

The cause of the outage, first reported about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday with more than 1,200 affected, was not listed on the company's website. It was the only major outage reported by the area's four major power companies.

Most area school districts were closed today in anticipation of ice and snow across the Greater Lansing area.

The National Weather Service in grand Rapids said "a variety of weather types is expected today, ranging from mostly snow north of Interstate 96 to a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow along/near I-96, to mostly rain along and south of I-94 after 10 a.m."

Temperatures are expected to be about freezing this morning and rise during the day into the mid-30s, the NWS said online.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. today for the Lansing area and 10 p.m. further north.

The Lansing area could see 2 inches of snow with ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch, the weather service reported.

Amtrak service in the Midwest was affected by the weather. The train service announced on its website that Chicago-Detroit-Pontiac passengers on trains 351 and 352 would be transported by chartered buses rather than by train Tuesday.

There was no specific reference to trains operating through the East Lansing station.

Capital Region International Airport was reporting arrivals and departures on time as of 7:25 a.m.
