National Weather Service says severe storms possible later today in the Tri-State

EVANSVILLE – Sunday was all about heavy rain. Today, there's more a concern about severe thunderstorms in the Evansville area, according to the National Weather Service.

Here's what forecasters are saying about today's outlook.

When will severe weather arrive in the Evansville/Henderson area?

A weaker line of storms will roll through the Tri-State around 10 a.m., bringing a brief round of heavy rain.

The bigger concern is with storms that could fire up this afternoon and evening. The timing is still uncertain, but the best window, according to the National Weather Service's hourly forecast, is between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Obviously, that could change.

What kind of severe weather is possible?

The National Weather Service's outlook for today mentions large hail and damaging winds as the biggest concerns, but notes that a few tornadoes could happen, as well.

What about flooding?

Localized flash flooding is possible in any given location if storms don't move much, or if they move over the same areas repeatedly. Evansville Regional Airport has measured 2.49 inches of rain since early Sunday morning − and some areas have seen more − so creeks and ditches will fill quickly in any downpour.
