National Weather Service updates weekend snow forecast for Evansville, Henderson

As Evansville-area snowstorms go, this weekend's event looks like it's going to be more bark than bite.

The National Weather Service says the Evansville area can expect, at most, an inch of snow Friday night into early Saturday morning, and even that will be mostly on grassy and elevated surfaces.

And that's if any snow falls at all.

Forecasters conceded during a Friday morning conference call that the Evansville/Henderson metro area may not see much of anything in the way of precipitation.

The heavier snow Friday night is expected in the St. Louis area, where colder air is in place. Then the storm system will move south of the Tri-State into Tennessee before sweeping east and northeast of the region by Sunday. Basically, it's likely to steer in a U-shape around the area, forecasters said.

National Weather Service officials said most roads in the region will be fine, as long as some treatment is done by highway crews in advance.

Temperatures are expected to reach the low to middle 40s Friday, falling this evening to the low to middle 30s. The cold air will be bolstered by gusty north winds reaching 25 mph at times, dropping wind chills into the teens late Saturday through early Sunday morning.
