Nations Clamoring to Buy Supersonic Brahmos Missile, India Says

Roughly 14 countries have signaled strong  interest in purchasing versions of an extremely fast cruise missile that is being jointly developed by Russia and India, the Times of India reported on Thursday.

New Delhi and Moscow would have to agree regarding which third-party nations might receive the supersonic Brahmos missile, Brahmos Aerospace CEO A. Sivathanu Pillai told the newspaper.

The world's only cruise missile that exceeds the speed of sound travels at upwards of Mach 2.8 and can hit targets about 180 miles away. Some versions of the missile reportedly are nuclear-capable. Developers of the technology claim that it is "uninterceptable."

An experimental jet-launched version of the missile is to enter the testing phase in roughly one year, Pillai said.
