A familiar name is returning to Tennessee football at quarterback.

Navy Shuler, the son of former Vols quarterback Heath Shuler, announced Sunday on his Twitter account he was transferring to UT from Appalachian State.

Navy Shuler was a freshman at Appalachian State last season but did not appear in a game. He has four years of eligibility remaining.

According to 247Sports, he will be a preferred walk-on for the Vols, which means he will not be on scholarship. Shuler announced he was entering the transfer portal on Dec. 10.

"I would like to thank Coach (Josh) Heupel and his staff for giving me this opportunity," Shuler said on Twitter. "Rocky Top has always been my home. It's time to return!"

Heath Shuler played at Tennessee from 1991-93, before being drafted No. 3 overall by the Washington Football Team in the 1994 NFL draft.

Navy Shuler joins a quarterback room that includes returning starter Hendon Hooker, backup Joe Milton and four-star signee Tayven Jackson.
