Navy Week runs through July 17 and will bring many sailors to the area. The events lead up to two days of Navy flight demonstrations by The Blue Angels during the Thunder Over Michigan Airshow at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti.

“Side Boys,” a Chicago-based U.S. Navy band, will perform outdoors from 4 to 5 today at the River Raisin National Battlefield Park Visitor Center, 333 N. Dixie Highway.

Attendees should bring blankets or lawn chairs.

An official presentation will take place indoors from 3 to 4 today at the Visitor Center and will include Navy presenters from across the country and a Navy uniform display.

Admission and parking are free.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Brian Coon of Maybee, an officer in the Navy Reserve, is helping to coordinate this year’s Navy Week Detroit events.

“I am very excited about our Monroe event,” Coon said. “There will be sailors from around the fleet, naval history and heritage command, the concert and more.”
