Nazareth educator no longer employed as sheriff's office investigates misconduct allegations

NAZARETH — A Nazareth ISD staff member is no longer employed and law enforcement is investigating after allegations surfaced last week that the district employee engaged in misconduct with a student.

Nazareth Independent School District Superintendent Kara Garlitz announced Friday the Castro County Sheriff's Office and Child Protective Services are investigating after the district received a report of the alleged misconduct Jan. 12. Garlitz did not detail the nature of the alleged misconduct or identify the former employee, who is no longer employed by the district.

"The District will continue to cooperate to the fullest extent permitted by law with law enforcement, TEA, and other state and local agencies relating to educator misconduct," Garlitz said in a statement to local media. "Inappropriate relationships or misconduct between District employees and students or minors are never tolerated."

The district said it will not provide any further information on the situation.

Nazareth ISD officials encourage anyone with concerns about educator misconduct or inappropriate relationships to contact the superintendent's office or local law enforcement.
