NBA G League’s Stockton Kings Hire Black Woman as Head Coach

The Stockton Kings basketball team has made history by hiring Lindsey Harding as the team’s first woman head coach and Anjali Ranadivé as its general manager. With the hirings the Kings have become the first NBA G League team in league history to be led by a woman head coach and general manager. The team recently announced the news on their official Instagram page.

About Lindsey Harding

Harding was selected number one overall in the 2007 WNBA draft out of Duke. She spent nine seasons in the WNBA from 2007 to 2016, playing for the Minnesota Lynx, Washington Mystics, Atlanta Dream, Los Angeles Sparks, New York Liberty, and Phoenix Mercury.   

Harding acted as an assistant and player development coach on the Sacramento coaching staff for the last four seasons. Additionally, she served as a player development coach for the Philadelphia 76ers. The 39-year-old is also the head coach of the Mexican women’s senior national team and led the South Sudan women’s senior national team during the 2021 FIBA AfroBasket qualifier. 

She was previously reported as a finalist for the head coaching position for the Stockton Kings in 2021, but the role was given to Bobby Jackson. Jackson left the team earlier this month to join Nick Nurse’s coaching staff in Philadelphia.

About Anjali Ranadivé

Ranadivé is taking over Paul Johnson’s role. Johnson will remain with Sacramento in a front-office role under Monte McNair.

She is the daughter of Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé. Ranadivé served as Stockton’s assistant general manager during the 2022-23 season. She was Sacramento’s social responsibility department coordinator and interned for the Golden State Warriors during her collegiate days from 2011-2013.

According to ESPN, before starting her career in sports, Ranadivé was a recording artist and songwriter in Los Angeles.
