NBA-National Basketball Association roundup

June 30 (The Sports Xchange) - Newly acquired Milwaukee Bucks coach Jason Kidd will sign a three- or four-year contract, according to multiple reports Monday. The Bucks fired coach Larry Drew after agreeing to send two second-round draft picks to the Brooklyn Nets for Kidd. Drew met with the team's front office Monday morning and was told he was let go. He signed a three-year, $7.5 million deal to coach the Bucks last year but lasted just one season. The Bucks finished 15-67 and had the No. 2 pick in last week's draft. The Bucks previously offered one second-round pick for Kidd, but the Nets sought a first-round pick in next year's draft. The Bucks only talked to Kidd about being the coach, not having any player personnel duties. Bucks general manager John Hammond and assistant general manager David Morway will remain in their positions, and no interviews were conducted for their jobs, according to multiple reports. Lionel Hollins, George Karl and Mark Jackson are reported candidates to replace Kidd in Brooklyn. - - - Miami Heat forward LeBron James will seek a maximum-salaried contract when he becomes a free agent on Tuesday, according to ESPN.com. James and his representatives will inform teams interested in negotiating with him that he wants the salary maximum, which is projected to be $22.2 million next season. He took a pay cut in 2010 to join the Miami Heat. In 11 NBA seasons, James has never been the highest paid player on his team. - - - New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony plans to meet with the Chicago Bulls in Chicago when he officially becomes a free agent Tuesday, according to ESPN.com. After his trip to Chicago, Anthony reportedly will head to Texas on Wednesday to meet with the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks. The Knicks remain confident that they can re-sign the All-Star. - - - The Orlando Magic waived guard Jameer Nelson after 10 seasons, the team announced. Nelson will become an unrestricted free agent. The move will save the Magic $6 million. Nelson played in 651 career NBA regular-season games (556 starts), all with Orlando, averaging 12.6 points, 5.4 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game. The Magic also waived guard Doron Lamb and claimed guard Willie Green off of waivers. - - - A day ahead of the start of NBA free agency, the Philadelphia 76ers cleared a roster spot by waiving James Anderson. The shooting guard started 68 games last season and played in 80, averaging 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists. - - - The Minnesota Timberwolves will not extend qualifying offers to forward Robbie Hummel and guard Othyus Jeffers.
