NBA takes Election Day off to encourage high voter turnout

With Election Day taking place in the United States, the NBA scheduled no games on Tuesday in an effort to encourage voter participation, share important resources from voting organizations and highlight the civic engagement work of teams.
The NBA saw a full slate of games on Monday with all 30 teams in action ahead of the planned day off. It marked the first of two days this season with 15 games on the schedule. Every team will also play again on the final day of the regular season on April 9, 2023.
Players around the NBA each wore specialized warm-up shirts on Monday promoting the importance of voting during their respective games. The league, players and teams also shared various voting resources on their social media channels.

The NBA has often taken a strong stance on several key social issues in the past. The decision to take Election Day off is the latest gesture the league has implemented in order to encourage fans to create change by hitting the polls and casting their ballots.
