NBC's 'World Of Dance' Renewed For Season 2

"World of Dance" judge Jennifer Lopez confirmed Thursday that the popular NBC show will return for a second season. The announcement comes after only five episodes of the reality competition show have aired.

Since its May 30 arrival, "WOD" has proven to be a solid-ratings provider for the network during its Tuesday evening time slot, averaging roughly 11 millions viewers weekly, according to Variety. The show follows behind fellow reality competition show "America's Got Talent" at 10 p.m. EDT.

Lopez spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the renewal on Thursday, claiming she's "proud" to be a part of the reality competition show. The former "American Idol" judge also serves as an executive producer for "WOD."

"I am so proud to not only star, but produce a show that is so close to my heart,'" Lopez told THR Thursday. "I am so happy that World of Dance has resonated with audiences and we are able to put dancers on the pedestal they deserve. I cannot wait to continue this journey and my partnership with NBC."

When the news broke, the "Ain't Your Mama" singer shared her excitement on Twitter, saying, "Let's DANCE!! @NBCWorldofDance will be back for SEASON TWO! #WorldOfDance."

Paul Telegdy, president of Alternative and Reality Group under NBC Entertainment Unscripted Programming, shared his joy over the early success of "WOD" and the show's "capabilities" within the network's summer lineup.

"The extraordinary ratings and digital performance is [a] testament to the unique capabilities of Universal Television Alternative Studio in crafting a format that works on all platforms and is instantly scalable," Telegdy told THR. "A good idea needs an amazing launch partner and Comcast-NBCUniversal has proven its marketing prowess once again."

Derek Hough left "Dancing with the Stars" to become a judge on "WOD." Likewise, he also shared his excitement over the season two announcement. The dance-pro took to Instagram to share the news with his followers.

"YEP!!!! SEASON 2 BABY!!!! It's happening," he wrote. "So incredibly thankful and happy to see the amazing art form that is Dance succeed! @jlo @neyo @jennadewan #nbc @nbcworldofdance."

Lopez and Hough serve as judges for "WOD" alongside Ne-Yo. Jenna Dewan-Tatum appears as the show's host alongside them. The show's host and judges all have a background in dance, allowing for them to effectively critique contestants that come through.

Unlike fellow dance shows "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Dancing with the Stars," dancers of all ages and backgrounds have the opportunity to participate in the show. After surviving the qualifying rounds, dancers will enter the real competition. Contestants will have to make it through five separate rounds in order to win it all (e.g. qualifiers, duels, the cut, divisional finals and finals). The top competitor will earn a whopping $1 million.

"Jennifer, Derek and Ne-Yo are three of the most accomplished dancers of their generation, and their incredible insight from the judges' table will be both inspiring and wholly constructive to the world-class level of dancers who are competing on the show," Meredith Ahr, Universal Television Alternative Studio President, said in a November 2016 statement to Fox News. "We feel so very honored that the three of them are giving back to the dance community in this way."

"WOD" is among NBC's impressive summer lineup of reality competition series, including "America's Got Talent," "Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge," "Little Big Shots: Forever Young," "The Wall," "Hollywood Game Night" and "American Ninja Warrior."

"WOD" will continue air throughout the summer on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC.
