NBC Connecticut newscaster Heidi Voight says her mom was murdered

NBC Connecticut anchor and former Miss America contestant Heidi Voight revealed her mother was murdered.

“I have been carrying this painful secret: My mother’s death was not natural, nor peaceful,” Voight told supporters on social media this week. “My mother was murdered, violently, in the place she should have felt safest — her own home in Windham, Vermont.”

Police initially believed Claudia M. Voight death on February 20 was due to a medical issue and didn’t seem suspicious. But an April autopsy reportedly revealed a neck compression killed the 73-year-old victim.

“The manner of death was homicide,” Vermont State Police wrote online.

Law enforcement officials said that information was being kept under wraps to protect their ongoing investigation. Cops don’t believe the homicide was random.

“For the last 161 days, the world around us has moved on. But my family and I have been living February 21st on repeat,” Voight said. “There is an emotional purgatory that comes when you must silence what you want to scream from the rooftops.”

The 41-year-old TV personality said it has been difficult to plan her mother’s funeral services and find closure.

“But our silence was necessary to protect the early stages of the intense criminal investigation,” she said.

Voight, a Milford, Conn., native, started with NBC Connecticut as a traffic reporter in 2014. She was named Miss Connecticut in 2006.
