If you'd been wondering what Michael Scott and the rest of the gang at Dunder Mifflin have been up to for the last six years, you might be in luck - the long-rumbling talks about a return for The Office are getting louder.

"It is my hope and goal that we do an Office reboot," Bonnie Hammer told Deadline. She's NBCUniversal's Chairman of Direct-to-Consumer and Digital Enterprises, not a Scottish exclamation on finding a particularly handsome hammer.

"The Office comes back to us in January 2021. It is my hope that we can figure what that great reboot would be," Hammer went on, "We are having conversations."

From the sounds of it the reboot would jump sideways from where the series ended in 2013. As Hammer put it, NBC "want there to be some connective tissue to what we also have in the library," which might imply a few heritage nods to the original series but a predominantly new cast and setting.

The Office is set to be yanked off Netflix early next year as NBC gets ready to launch its own streaming platform. Why yes, the amount of streaming platforms the average telly-watcher is expected to sign up to is frankly ludicrous and a TV addiction is a first-class ticket to a cash haemorrhage these days.

Surprisingly, the reaction from longtime Office fans hasn't been uniformly positive,

That last suggestion is very much not the mainstream view. Now is not the time for Tim The Toolman Taylor to uuuUUURGHHH?? his way back into the discourse.
