NBCUniversal in Talks to Buy Walmart’s Vudu Streaming Service

Comcast’s NBCUniversal is in talks to Vudu, Walmart’s free ad-supported streaming service, on the eve of the company’s planned spring launch of its own new streaming service, Peacock. The financial terms of the deal were not clear, and individuals with knowledge of the negotiations told the Wall Street Journal that the discussions may not result in any deal. Vudu, which Walmart acquired for $100 million-plus in 2010, has has offered a free ad-supported streaming service to its users since 2016, along with the option to buy and rent movies and shows. Those services, installed on 100 million devices, could be seen as a complement to Peacock — which will feature both ad-supported and ad-free subscriptions when it begins its rollout on April 15.
