NC high school football playoff scores, recaps in Gastonia, Shelby first round

Here are recaps of Friday’s NCHSAA high school football first round playoff games in Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties.

3A West

(1) Kings Mountain 42, (32) St. Stephens 6: Kings Mountain scored in a litany of ways — all of which came in the first quarter. Caleb Holland scored a touchdown on the game’s opening kickoff, with Xzorion Lenair adding a punt return touchdown. Teddy Jeffries rushed for two touchdowns, Lamont Littlejohn and Bryson Brown connected on another TD, while Jake Lloyd returned an interception for a touchdown. Kings Mountain (11-0) takes on Smoky Mountain in Round 2.

(8) West Charlotte 40, (25) Stuart Cramer 13: Stuart Cramer’s season ends at 4-7.

(5) Northwest Cabarrus 17, (28) Ashbrook 3: The Green Wave could muster only a field goal against Northwest Cabarrus, which scored 17 unanswered on its way to victory. Ashbrook’s season ends at 4-7.

(13) Tuscola 35, (20) Forestview 14: Forestview took an early lead but couldn’t keep pace on the road. Christian Holland rushed for a touchdown, with Jaxson Hill passing to Nathan Aguilar for another Jaguars TD. Forestview’s season ends at 4-7.

(4) East Lincoln 51, (29) Ashe County 6: Tyler Mizzell accounted for four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing) as East Lincoln rolled to a first-round win. Keandre Walker caught two touchdown passes, with Jackson Beam on the receiving end of another TD. Christopher Daley had a rushing touchdown, while Marcel Johnson returned a blocked punt for a TD. East Lincoln (11-0) takes on Tuscola in Round 2.

(11) South Point 48, (22) Hickory 13: Cam Medlock rushed for four touchdowns, Patrick Blee added two and Jayden Garrett-Straite returned an interception for a touchdown. South Point (10-1) will travel to Dudley in Round 2, a rematch of last year’s 3A West final won by the Panthers, 38-0.

2A West

(4) Community School of Davidson 20, (29) East Gaston 14: Chase Johnson scored two touchdowns, but a second-half rally by Community School of Davidson was too much to overcome. East Gaston’s season ends at 6-5.

(3) Burns 62, (30) Morehead 13: Graham Warlick had three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving) while Ryan Thompson had two (receiving, punt return). Treyzail Littlejohn, Jeremiah Norris and Lemont Norris each had a rushing touchdown, while Ben Mauney threw two touchdown passes. Travis Coltrane returned a fumble for a touchdown. Burns (10-1) welcomes rival Shelby for a clash in Round 2.

(19) Shelby 30, (14) Forest Hills 13: Drew Hollifield rushed for three touchdowns, while Daylin Lee passed to Milan Andrews for another. Jack Berkowitz also hit a 36-yard field goal. Shelby (7-4) will make a return trip to rival Burns in Round 2.

(23) Lincolnton 37, (10) Randleman 36 (F/OT): Andre Bost and Khamoni Heath each had two rushing touchdowns, with Will Blackburn catching a touchdown pass in overtime to help Lincolnton (6-5) to its first playoff win since 2017.

(15) Hendersonville 36, (18) West Lincoln 29: Mason Avery rushed for 255 yards and three touchdowns on 38 carries, with Jaylin Winnex rushing for 100 yards and Jordan Truesdale scoring a touchdown. West Lincoln’s season ends at 8-3.

1A West

(8) Robbinsville 40, (25) Cherryville 14: Cherryville’s season ends at 3-8.

(15) Mountain Island Charter 16, (18) Bessemer City 14: Mountain Island Charter’s Ashton Miller had 10 tackles (six for a loss), five sacks, a blocked field goal and a blocked punt that led to the game-winning safety. Nate Eaton had 182 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries for the Raptors. Mountain Island Charter (5-5) advances to take on Andrews. Bessemer City’s season ends at 3-8.

(2) Andrews 77, (31) Highland Tech 8: Highland Tech’s season ends at 0-11.
