NC is home to the the best family-friendly spot in America, Tripadvisor says
A popular spot in North Carolina has been named the best family-friendly restaurant in America.
Tripadvisor released its 2023 Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Family Restaurants report. Out of all of the restaurants across the country, Outer Banks Boil Company in Corolla, NC, ranks No. 1 at the top of the list.
“Outer Banks Boil Company Corolla offers a unique seafood experience that visitors to the Outer Banks won’t want to miss,” the report says.
“Specializing in signature seafood boils, the restaurant provides fresh and delicious options like shrimp, scallops, mussels, lobster, and more. The Outer Banks Boil Company Corolla is a must-visit for those seeking an unforgettable dining experience in North Carolina’s Corolla region.”
Unlike the traditional restaurant experience, the restaurant’s seafood boils are available for takeout or catering so that you can prepare and enjoy a traditional Carolina low-country boil on your own, or they can set up the equipment, cook and clean for your group.
“The idea was to replicate a family beach tradition of steaming up a huge pot of potatoes, fresh corn, andouille sausage and shrimp, then dumping it on a covered table and sharing it with friends and family,” the restaurant’s website says about owner Matt Khouri’s original business plan.
“Folks would stand around peeling shrimp, eating, drinking beer and raving about how something so simple could taste so good.”
Outer Banks Boil Company doesn’t just offer seafood. You can also order barbecue, coleslaw, cornbread and key lime pie.

The restaurant originally opened in 2016 and has multiple locations in North Carolina, including Oak Island, Kitty Hawk and Emerald Isle, along with others in Florida, Virginia, Maryland and New Jersey.
“We can’t say enough good things about this company. It really is a highlight of our week eating here,” one Tripadvisor review says. “The food is amazing, so fresh and the instructions are so easy ANYONE can do it! It’s much better seafood than we have ever had in a restaurant.”
