NC man and woman vanish on different days. What to know about these missing people.

The cases of two older adults who vanished in Charlotte recently remain “open and active,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said Wednesday.

Nancy Brown, 79, was last seen around midnight on Dec. 9 by her family around the 7000 block of Neuhoff Lane, The Charlotte Observer previously reported.

Police on Thursday released a new photo of Brown and renewed its plea to the public for information on her whereabouts.

Nancy Brown, a 79-year-old woman suffering from a cognitive impairment, went missing in Charlotte on Dec. 9, 2023. She may have been traveling by bus to Brooklyn, NY.

Also missing is 55-year-old Djakaridia “Issac” Traore, who disappeared just after Thanksgiving, on Nov. 25, from an affordable southwest Charlotte housing complex, according to a police report.

CMPD: Woman has cognitive impairment

Brown, who is from New York City and suffers from a cognitive impairment, may have taken a Greyhound bus to Brooklyn, CMPD said at the time.

The bus made stops in Wilmington, Raleigh, Richmond, Virginia, and Union Station in Washington, D.C.

In New York City, the bus stopped at the Midtown station at 31st Street and 8th Avenue, in Chinatown at 28th Street and at NYC Port Authority, police said.

Brown is a 5-8, 140-pound Black female. She has brown eyes and gray hair that’s balding on top. She was possibly wearing a dark shirt with dark pants, a teal jacket, a white hat and black sneakers when she disappeared.

Police have asked residents and businesses around W.T. Harris Boulevard, Sugar Creek Road and Brown Road, and David Cox Road and Davis Lake Parkway to check security camera footage for Dec. 9 between midnight and 6 a.m.

Missing man walks with a slight shuffle

Traore was headed toward the Family Dollar on Clanton Road at South Tryon Street when he disappeared. He rarely left the housing complex, said Gena Robinson, vice president of housing at SECU The Rise on Clanton.

Traore walks with a slight shuffle, according to CMPD. He suffers from “several medical conditions” and was last seen wearing jeans, a white hoodie with “Aero NYC 1987” on the front and a blue striped shirt underneath.

He is from Ivory Coast in Africa and speaks fluent English, French and Swahili, as well as Jula — his native language.

Roof Above, a nonprofit dedicated to ending homelessness, converted the hotel where Traore lives to host 88 residents who have a disability and experienced chronic homelessness for at least a year, Robinson said.

Some residents have gone missing before, Liz Clasen-Kelly, CEO of Roof Above, previously told the Observer. The organization typically finds them where they stayed when they were homeless or at local hospitals, she said.

No one has ever been missing as long as Traore, she said.

Police urge anyone who knows the whereabouts of Brown or Traore to call 911 immediately or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tips line at 704-334-1600.
