NC State football to face Maryland in Duke's Mayo Bowl

After a regular season that included starting four different quarterbacks, NC State football (8-4, 4-4) will face Maryland in the Duke's Mayo Bowl.

The Charlotte-based bowl will begin at noon on Dec. 30 at Bank of America Stadium featuring a showdown between former ACC rivals. The Terps (7-5) made a bowl game for the second straight season and finished 4-5 in the Big Ten with all wins coming against sub-.500 teams: Michigan State, Indiana, Northwestern and Rutgers.

NC State ended the regular season with a 30-27 double overtime win over rival UNC. This is both teams' first appearance in the Duke's Mayo Bowl. In 70 meetings, the series between the two is tied 33-33-4 with Maryland winning the last matchup 41-21 in 2013 at Carter-Finley Stadium.

In 2000, they played into double overtime and in 2001 Maryland clinched an Orange Bowl berth with a dramatic last-minute touchdown to beat NC State in Raleigh for its first ACC title in 16 years.

The Wolfpack are 3-3 in postseason bowls under head coach Dave Doeren. They were unable to play in last year's Holiday Bowl after UCLA backed out in the final hours due to COVID-19.
