NC State gives football coach Dave Doeren a contract extension. Here’s what it says.

Dave Doeren is sticking around for a while longer.

On Friday the N.C. State Board of Trustees officially approved a contract extension for head football coach Doeren and his assistants. The new deal runs through the 2025 season.

The News & Observer obtained a copy of the fully extended agreement between Doeren and the university.

▪ Doeren will receive supplemental compensation of $1.6 million in quarterly installments on March 31, June 30, Sept. 30, and Dec. 31.

▪ Doeren will receive Federal Graduation Rate and Graduation Success Rate bonuses.

▪ He will receive a $50,000 bonus for an eight-win season; $150,000 for 10 wins; $200,000 for 11 wins; $250,000 for 12 wins. Also a bonus of $100,000 for getting to the ACC championship game and $200,000 for winning the ACC championship game.

▪ Doeren will also receive an additional $25,000 for playing in a non-CFB Bowl game; $50,000 for winning a non-CFB Bowl game; $100,000 for playing in the CFP non-semifinal game; $200,000 for winning non-semifinal CFP game; $250,000 for playing in a CFP semifinal game; $300,000 for playing in the CFP National title game; $500,000 for winning the CFP National title.

▪ He will also receive an additional $50,000 for finishing the season ranked in the CFP Top 25 and $100,000 for being ranked in the final top 15.

“I am thankful to Chancellor Woodson, Boo Corrigan, and our respective Boards for the opportunity to be at NC State and continue to build and lead this great program,” Doeren said in a statement.

Doeren kept the majority of his staff intact, adding Joker Phillips as the new wide receivers coach in the offseason, replacing George McDonald.

“The commitment to me and our staff means a lot,” Doeren said. “We do not take it lightly and we will continue to fight to make this a great program. We have an incredible opportunity here, amazing support from our fan base, and the future is very bright.”

In eight seasons in Raleigh Doeren has an overall record of 55-46 and 28-38 in the ACC. Since 2013 the Pack has only had two losing seasons under Doeren and have played in six bowl games. He put together consecutive nine-win seasons in 2017 and 18. The Wolfpack ended the 2017 season ranked No. 23 coaches and AP polls.

Next year will be one of Doeren’s most experienced teams, with 18 starters returning, including 10 on defense.

Doeren is the second-longest tenured coach in school history behind Earle Edwards and is second in wins, also behind Edwards.

“NC State football continues to have significant momentum under Dave’s leadership and this new agreement further reflects our commitment to the direction of our program,” athletic director Boo Corrigan said.

In 2019 Doeren signed a five-year contract, which gave him a $250,000 raise. The deal was worth $3.25 million annually through the 2023 season.
