NC State LB Payton Wilson unlikely to return vs. ECU

GREENVILLE — NC State linebacker Payton Wilson suffered an upper-body injury during the first half of Saturday's game against ECU and is unlikely to return according to a team source.

Wilson, who has suffered multiple shoulder injuries in his Wolfpack career, was seen walking on the sideline during the most recent defensive drive. He suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2 last year against Mississippi State.

It was a crushing blow for the All-ACC preseason pick and team captain who had eyes on an NFL jump if he was able to capitalize on his rising stock after finishing with 108 tackles, 3.5 sacks and two interceptions in 2020.

NC State leads East Carolina 14-7 midway through the second quarter.
