NC State’s running back room just got smaller. Senior Jordan Houston to redshirt

An N.C. State running back will not play for the remainder of the season, the program announced Thursday.

Senior Jordan Houston will redshirt this fall. He is set to finish his studies this semester and graduate.

“We wish him all the best,” the Wolfpack football account tweeted.

Houston was listed on the depth chart as a potential starter this week against Virginia, alongside sophomore Michael Allen.

The senior from Maryland started in all three games this season, finishing with 96 yards on 25 carries. He recorded 57 yards on 13 carries against UConn, his best game of the season. Since then, his number of rushing attempts has dropped.

Neither the program nor Houston provided additional information on the departure, though sophomore Michael Allen, freshman Kendrick Raphael and redshirt junior Delbert Mimms III seem to have settled into a rotation. Raphael recorded 85 yards on 16 carries against VMI last week.

Houston finished last season ranked No. 10 in the ACC for rushing yards per game and was the starting back in all 12 games. He earned the team’s Offensive Back of the Year award.

The redshirt allows Houston to retain his eligibility. He could return to the Pack in 2024 or opt to enter the transfer portal as a graduate student.
