There are 11 new teams in this week’s statewide high school basketball rankings from The Charlotte Observer and News & Observer of Raleigh.

Four of those are girls’ teams.

In the private school rankings, Charlotte Latin’s girls have won seven straight games after an 0-2 start. The Hawks are in at No. 10.

In 4A, Watauga’s girls (7-1) are in at No. 10. The Pioneers have won seven straight games led by Ms. Basketball candidate, junior Kate Sears, who is averaging 23.2 points, six assists and 5.3 assists. Charlotte Catholic is the new 4A No. 1.

In 3A, Asheville Reynolds (6-1) is in at No. 9 and Northwest Cabarrus (5-1) at No. 10.

There are seven new teams in the boys’ statewide rankings.

Longtime NC private school power Greensboro Day (11-3) joins the private school rankings. Greensboro Day coach Freddy Johnson is among the nation’s all-time winningest high school coaches. After a 2-2 start, the Bengals have won nine of their past 10 games and three in a row.

Unbeaten Raleigh Wakefield (8-0) and unbeaten Weddington (9-0) are in the 4A poll.

Central Davidson (5-0) is the only new team in 3A. Ditto Catawba’s Bandy High (8-0) in 2A.

The 1A poll welcomes two unbeaten teams: 7-0 Southeast Halifax and 6-0 South Stanly. Also, South Stokes (8-0) replaces Bishop McGuinness (6-0) in the top spot. Bishop McGuinness fell to No. 2.
