NC woman says her Frigidaire refrigerator exploded less than a year after purchase

Another Frigidaire customer is cleaning up a mess after their refrigerator exploded.

Lenore Satterthwaite, of Person County, North Carolina, told Channel 9′s affiliate station, WTVD, her Frigidaire refrigerator exploded in her kitchen.

“I was on the computer, I thought it was an earthquake. It was so loud, and I came in, the doors were on the floor,” Satterthwaite said.

Satterthwaite says she bought the refrigerator last fall. Days before the explosion, Satterthwaite said Frigidaire sent a technician to her home after she requested a warranty repair since the refrigerator was making a loud noise.

“He said this is your problem, he had the freezer part all apart,” Satterthwaite said. “He said the fan isn’t working properly to keep the temperature regulated, so he had to order a fan.”

Investigators said there is no evidence of an electrical fire or anything else that could have e caused the explosion.

Satterthwaite’s homeowners insurance covered the damage.

Channel 9 has covered several issues with glass shattering on Frigidaire oven models. The parent company, Electrolux, says the glass may break, but it doesn’t happen often. They say they are always working to improve their products.
