The NCIS: Los Angeles fanbase is on the edge of their seats waiting for news surrounding Henrietta “Hetty” Lange (Linda Hunt).

As viewers are well aware, Hetty has been M.I.A. for quite some time. While the current narrative is that she’s somewhere in Syria on a secret mission, her absence from the show seems to be taking forever — so long, in fact, that many fans are curious if she’ll even be returning to the series. “Bring back Hetty!!!!!!!!” one person pleaded in the comments section of a recent NCIS: LA Instagram post celebrating 300 episodes. “Hetty. We need Hetty,” another added.

Thankfully, showrunner R. Scott Gemmill understands fans’ concern and he recently addressed the matter.

Speaking with Parade at the 2022 PaleyFest, the executive producer revealed what folks can expect moving forward.

“She was in at the beginning of this season and then we had her disappear,” he told the outlet. “The plan is to follow that up next year with some reveal.” While addressing Hetty’s disappearance from the show, he assured fans that her story continues. Now, the only question is whether or not she’ll actually get back on-screen to deliver that narrative.

Considering Special Agent G. Callen (Chris O’Donnell) is currently taking a deep dive into his identity and what his relationship with Hetty means — was he just another recruit or something more? — it’s simple to assume that Hetty will rejoin the cast to help further unfold that dialogue. Fortunately for fans, Scott seems to agree.

“We’ve pitted her a little bit against Callen in terms of what he went through as a child, so that’s something we’re very eager to explore and have fun with,” he told the magazine. “We saw a little bit of that confrontation earlier this year, but before they could really have it out, she disappeared again. That’ll be [the] focus for us in season 14 when we come back.”

We can't wait!
