NCIS: Los Angeles has bid farewell to fans in a sweet series finale, teasing there may be more ahead for its two leads.

The NCIS spinoff came to a close after 14 seasons with a two-part send-off ('New Beginnings'), with the second half airing last night (May 21) in the US.

The episode left the door open for more adventures for protagonists Sam (LL Cool J) and Callen (Chris O'Donnell), the two special agents that have appeared since the pilot aired in September 2009.

'New Beginnings, Part Two' saw Callen marrying Anna (Bar Paly) in a spontaneous city hall wedding, with his trusted friend Sam by his side. Meanwhile, Kensi (Daniela Ruah) discovered that she and Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) were finally going to have a baby.

The series finale also included a much anticipated return from Linda Hunt's Hetty. The beloved character didn't appear in the flesh, but sent Callen a letter offering him and Anna her Mykonos place for their honeymoon.

Her offer was somewhat conditional, though, as she asked Callen and Sam to take "a small side job" and help her out with a tricky situation in Morocco.

While Amy headed for Greece right away, Callen and Sam made their way to Morocco first. There, they had an emotional reunion with a few familiar faces from previous seasons: intelligence analyst Nell Jones (Renée Felice Smith), Sabatino (Erik Palladino) and Nate (Peter Cambor).

The two agents learned their mission was to find Hetty and both decided to jump in on this new quest. While this may set up a return for LL Cool J and O'Donnell's characters at some point down the line, there hasn't been an official confirmation of a comeback as of yet.

NCIS: Los Angeles airs on CBS in the US and on Sky Max in the UK.
