FARGO, N.D. — Senior defensive end Spencer Waege is one of three North Dakota State football players named to the HERO Sports FCS All-America Team announced on Thursday.

Fullback Hunter Luepke and left tackle Cody Mauch also were honored from the Bison.

Waege, a South Shore native and Watertown High School graduate, is a two-time All-American with second team honors from the AFCA and third team from Phil Steele in 2020-21. He has recorded 38 tackles, 19 solos and 19 assists, in 12 games this season with 15 tackles for a loss, eight quarterback sacks and a forced fumble.

Waege finished 13th out of 30 finalists for the Buck Buchanan Award, given to the FCS Defensive Player of the Year,

No. 3 seed North Dakota State (10-2) is scheduled host sixth-seeded Southern Conference champion Samford (11-1) in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I Football Championship on Friday at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome.
