NE Marion: Citra man, 23, dies in single-vehicle crash

CITRA — A traffic crash claimed the life of one person Friday evening. Here's what we know:

Where: County Road 318 and Northeast 199th Street Road in Citra.

Time of crash: 5:46 p.m. Friday

What happened? Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a pickup truck driven by a 23-year-old Citra man was northbound on CR 318. Troopers said the vehicle veered off the road and onto the west shoulder.

From there, the pickup hit a traffic sign. The driver lost control and the vehicle returned to the roadway and onto the east shoulder. The vehicle then struck a utility pole and continued northbound on CR 318.

FHP officials the truck again went off the roadway and onto the west shoulder, where it struck a tree.

Who died? The FHP no longer includes names in its news releases. The release said only that the deceased is a 23-year-old Citra man.
