Nearby residents asked to evacuate following accident involving anhydrous tanks in Monticello

Nov. 5—MONTICELLO — An accident involving anhydrous tanks led to the evacuation of nearby residents today, Monticello Police Chief Chief Rob Bross said.

First responders were dispatched to the 400 block of Kratz Road — an east-west thoroughfare on the south side of town — after police said a truck hit a tree and had "steam coming out of it." Officers said the truck was transporting anhydrous tanks and the hitch broke, causing tanks to collide with trees and a small leak of anhydrous ammonia.

Residents were advised of the situation and asked to evacuate. Emergency responders were able to ascertain there was no danger to the public and no other evacuations were needed.

No injuries were reported.

Monticello FS collected their tanks. The Monticello Police Department, Monticello Fire Department, Kirby Ambulance and Piatt County EMA responded to the scene.
