Nearly 2,800 Russian troops remain in Belarus, Ukraine says

“According to our data, there were around 10,000-11,000 (Russian) troops there (in Belarus); now they are down to 2,800 military service members,” SBGS spokesman Andriy Demchenko told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on May 1.

Demchenko clarified that Russian military personnel are taking part in training exercises within Belarus, before being dispatched to combat zones in eastern Ukraine.

On April 30th, Demchenko said that Russia doesn’t launch missiles at Ukraine from Belarus, with only Iranian-made Shahed kamikaze drones attacking from across Ukraine’s northern border.
