A Skimmer attached to an ATM at a local bank helped thieves still nearly $2,000 from people’s bank accounts.

As News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott reported at 6 p.m. Kettering police said the Wright-Patt Credit Union on Wodmman Drive was the bank targeted.

Video obtained by News Center 7 through a public records request shows to men police are looking for.

Police believe the two used skimmers, tiny card readers that can be hidden in the ATM to grab people’s debit card information.

“It’s scary. The world we live in is scary,” Melissa Evans in Kettering said.

After targeting the inside ATM police said the two covered the outside cameras with tape.

Then used skimmers on that ATM out there as well.

In total, they made off with close to $2,000 and the debit card information of an estimated 30 people.

“I check my account every single day, all day throughout the day,” Evans said. “I had caught a lot of fraud on my account before.”

She didn’t want to risk catching another fraud case.

Others who visited the bank were also concerned.

“It’s scary. You gotta be on the lookout and be constantly aware,” Shane Smith said.

Police added that skimmers can be placed at any bank, not just Wright-Patt Credit Union.

They provided some tips to help protect yourself including feeling around and outside the machine in case someone put a skimmer in it and you can pull it out.

Anyone with leads or information on both or either of the suspects are asked to contact Detective Engles at (937)296-3251, reference report #23-047498.
