Nebraska teenager killed in head-on collision with semi in Pottawattamie County

A 17-year-old Nebraska teenager was killed following a collision with a semi truck on mile marker 70 south of Missouri Valley on Highway 29 around 6 p.m. Saturday, according to a report from the Iowa State Patrol.

The teen's vehicle was traveling northbound when it crossed into oncoming traffic for unknown reasons and collided head on with a semi truck, Sgt. Alex Dinkla of the Iowa State Police said in a news statement. The vehicle erupted in flames and the teenager succumbed to his injuries, he said.

The driver of the semi truck was not injured in the collision, a news release from the Iowa State Patrol reports.

Authorities have not identified the Nebraska teenager.

As of Friday, 97 people died in accidents on Iowa roads, up 19.75% from one year ago.
