Needy Fund aids disabled elderly couple with car repairs
The cost of maintaining a car can be stressful, but when someone lives on a fixed income it becomes infinitely more challenging.
Old cars can break down often and need constant repairs, while new cars don’t need repairs as often but have high monthly loan rates.
A disabled Mid-Cape couple managing multiple health issues needed reliable transportation to get to their appointments with doctors, some as far as Boston.
Their aging car required constant repair, and the bills were adding up. One day, on their way to a surgical appointment, their brakes failed and they needed an immediate repair.
However, with their limited retirement income, they didn’t have enough money to cover the cost. They reached out to the Needy Fund, which stepped in to help them pay for the repair.
The Needy Fund also referred the couple to partner agencies that could provide other services to them. With the help of the Needy Fund, the couple got access to the tools they needed to stay healthy and financially solid.
Many human service agencies offer assistance to those in need, but the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund has been helping with a host of immediate, short-term emergencies such as food, rent, medical costs and other basic expenses since 1936.

Donations or assistance
No cash is given to Needy Fund recipients. Instead, the agency pays vendors through a voucher program. The case described above was provided by the Needy Fund on condition of anonymity.
Donations, which are tax deductible, may be made at needyfund.org. Checks also can be made payable to the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund and mailed to Cape Cod Times Needy Fund, P.O. Box 36, Hyannis, MA 02601.
