Needy Fund client struggling with mental well-being receives assistance with housing costs

The physical impacts of COVID-19 are often the most visible, but the pandemic's influence can stretch far beyond physical illness. Social isolation, loneliness, grief from a loss of loved ones or financial concerns from missing work can contribute to feelings of anxiety and depression.

A Needy Fund client struggling with their mental well-being reached out to the Fund for assistance with housing costs.

Working in the technology services industry, this community member had to take leave from their job due to anxiety and depression brought on by social isolation, made worse by their company's decision to remain a remote workplace.

As they readied to return to work, the suicide of a close relative led them to miss another week of work, and they soon found themselves facing their monthly bills without their regular income.

The Needy Fund was able to provide financial relief for this Cape resident, allowing them to remain in good standing with their housing situation and relieve some financial stress.

More about the Needy Fund

Many human service agencies offer assistance to those in need, but the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund has been helping with immediate short-term emergencies such as food, rent, medical costs and other basic expenses since 1936.

No cash is given to Needy Fund recipients. Instead, the agency pays vendors through a voucher program. The case described above was provided by the Needy Fund on the condition of anonymity.
