Neenah, Little Chute new leaders in high school football rankings

Here's the seventh edition of the Post-Crescent high school football rankings, separated in large and small school divisions. Teams are ranked on a "pound-for-pound" basis where the team's success is measured in relation to enrollment size.

Large schools (Divisions 1-3)

1. Neenah (7-0): Rockets new No. 1 after 35-17 win over Kaukauna and Kimberly's loss to Fond du Lac. Neenah and Kimberly meet in a Fox Valley Association showdown this week. Next: Friday at Kimberly.

2. Kimberly (6-1): Papermakers fall 31-21 to Fond du Lac last Friday and move down one spot in the rankings. Seth Miron passed for over 300 yards and two touchdowns. Next: Friday vs. Neenah.

3. Menasha (6-1): Bluejays take control of Fox River Classic Conference-South with 28-21 victory over Notre Dame on Friday. Menasha's lone loss this season is to Neenah in Week 2. Next: Friday at Sheboygan North.

4. Appleton North (5-2): Lightning records fourth shutout with 19-0 victory over Oshkosh West. Brock Arndt leads team in total tackles (63) and tackles for loss (seven). Team needs one win over the next two weeks to automatically qualify for the postseason. Next: Friday vs. Fond du Lac.

5. Kaukauna (4-3): Ghosts finish regular season vs. Appleton East and at Kimberly. They need one win to automatically qualify for the postseason. Next: Friday vs. Appleton East.

Also: Fox Valley Lutheran (5-2).

Small schools (Divisions 4-7)

1. Little Chute (7-0): Mustangs gut out 22-16 victory over previously undefeated Freedom last Friday and take over top spot in the rankings. Next: Friday at Wrightstown.

2. Freedom (6-1): Irish drop a spot in rankings and look to bounce back from last week's loss with back-to-back games at home against Denmark this week and Fox Valley Lutheran on Oct. 14. Next: Friday vs. Denmark.

3. Wrightstown (6-1): Tigers staying in North Eastern Conference title chase and can grab a share of the conference lead with a win over league-leader Little Chute this week. Next: Friday vs. Little Chute.

4. Clintonville (5-2): Truckers one win away from qualifying for postseason after 8-0 victory over Oconto Falls. Team finishes regular season with games at Coleman and against Tomahawk on Oct. 14. Next: Friday at Coleman.

5. St. Mary Catholic (5-0, 8-player): Zephyrs were off last week. Team's offense paced by quarterback Danny Griffith (847 yards passing, 17 touchdowns). Next: Friday vs. Abundant Life/St. Ambrose.

Also: Chilton (5-2), Xavier (4-3), Weyauwega-Fremont (4-3), Shiocton (4-3), Manawa (4-3).
