SUQUAMISH – A fire at a residence on Maple Street in Suquamish early Friday morning displaced four people. A neighbor has been credited with alerting the family inside the home to the blaze.

North Kitsap Fire and Rescue crews were dispatched to the home shortly before 6 a.m., agency spokeswoman Michèle Laboda said. Two adults and two children were inside but were evacuated thanks to the efforts of a neighbor who spotted flames coming from one end of the home, Laboda said.

"He was able to get them alerted and out of the house, which was starting to fill with smoke," Laboda said.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Firefighters were able to knock down the flames fairly quickly, but the home suffered severe damage on one end, Laboda said. The residents of the home were renters and did not have insurance, she said. They were displaced by the fire and were working with the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire was not yet known, Laboda said. The Kitsap County Fire Marshal's Office was investigating the blaze.
