Neighbours spoilers follow.

Neighbours included another funny Easter Egg in Tuesday's episode (January 23) with a subtle nod to the show being saved by Amazon.

As the residents of the share house reflected on the sad departure of Trevor the dog, conversation briefly turned to the Erinsborough community's favourite soap opera, One Way Street.

Back in the "final" weeks of Neighbours in 2022, Amy Greenwood went on a blind date but was alarmed when her mystery guy turned out to be an obsessed superfan of the fictional soap.

The guy in question, Ben, bored Amy with various pieces of One Way Street trivia before breaking the sad news that the long-running soap would be ending.

Ben vowed that he and other "Street fighters" would be celebrating to the very end – reflecting the 'Celebrating Neighbours' social media campaign that ran after Neighbours was cancelled by Channel 5.

In real life, One Way Street was one of the original titles that was suggested for Neighbours before the show launched in 1985. Ben's date with Amy also included many references to Neighbours, as he spoke enthusiastically about "the wedding" and a fan favourite called "Dr Ken".

It seems that the similarities don't end there, with the latest Neighbours episode confirming that One Way Street has enjoyed a surprise revival of its own.

As Byron Stone and Mackenzie Hargreaves worried about Haz Devkar, who'd been forced to give Trevor back to his former owner, they hoped that television would distract him.

Byron suggested: "One Way Street's back on. Or hey, we could watch the Jack Reacher TV series."

The surprise revelation indicates that – just like with Neighbours – someone kindly stepped in to give One Way Street a new season, providing a happy ending for its devoted fans.

Meanwhile, the Reacher reference could also be seen as a shout-out to Amazon in its own right, since it airs exclusively on Prime Video.

Neighbours releases new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays for free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US. In Australia, the show airs from Mondays to Thursdays at 4pm on Channel 10, with a 6.30pm repeat screening on 10 Peach.
