Neighbours is bringing back script producer Shane Isheev to work on the show's new season.

Shane announced the news on Twitter on Monday (March 6), confirming that he'd be moving back to Australia for the job.

When Neighbours ended last year, Shane moved to the UK to join Channel 4's Hollyoaks as story editor.

Shane's first credited episodes of Hollyoaks aired at the end of last month, but he'll now be leaving the soap to return to Neighbours.

Posting on Twitter, Shane shared a picture of a suitcase and a Ramsay Street sign, alongside the caption: "When the mothership calls you home…… #Neighbours."

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy today, Shane confirmed: "When the resurrection of Neighbours was announced, I was instantly hit with FOMO.

"I'm beyond grateful to be invited back and I can't wait to see what Jason Herbison, Andrew Thompson and Sarah Mayberry already have in store for the return.

"Sadly, this means my time in Chester is coming to an end. I've absolutely loved having the opportunity to create stories that only Hollyoaks could tell and believe me, there are some incredible things in the works.

"I can't thank Si Wall and Aimee Chester enough for allowing me to play in their playground. The Hollyoaks fans are lucky to have them."

Shane joined Neighbours in 2015 and rose through the ranks to become script producer on the show. He'll be reclaiming this position upon his return to Melbourne.

His work on Neighbours first time around included the nostalgic 35th anniversary episodes in 2020, Freya Wozniak and David Tanaka's deadly drama at River Bend, and the historic final week which brought the Ramsay Street serial to a close in 2022.

Neighbours is being revived by free streaming service Amazon Freevee for its new season, which will launch later this year.

Neighbours returns in the second half of 2023 with new episodes streaming free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US. Network 10 will retain first-run rights in Australia for the new series.
