Reg Watson, the writer who created the beloved soap Neighbours as well as a host of other Australian dramas such as Prisoner and The Young Doctors, has sadly passed away at the age of 93.
Neighbours' executive producer, Jason Herbison, has shared a touching tribute to Reg in a statement, saying his legacy "lives on in Ramsay Street".
"Everyone at Neighbours is sad to hear of the passing of our creator, Reg Watson," the statement read. "He was a pioneer of drama, prolific in his output and by all accounts a lovely person to work with. His legacy lives on in Ramsay Street to this day."

"Reg Watson was a trailblazer in Australian commercial television drama," Home and Away writer and Sons and Daughters creator Bevan Lee said.
"He also mentored many of its top writing and production talents over the years, including myself, John Holmes, Rick Maier, Sue Smith, Patrea Smallacombe, Greg Haddrick, Coral Drouyn, Jason Herbison and John Misto.
"He also gave a start to many actors who have gone on to tread the world stage, especially through his creation Neighbours. This, Sons and Daughters, Prisoner and The Young Doctors. What a creative legacy! Why is he NOT in the Hall of Fame?"
Reg was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2010 for services to the media, but he hasn't been inducted in the Logie Hall of Fame – something we think is well overdue.
Recently, Neighbours celebrated the 25th anniversary of the arrival of two of its most famous characters: Karl and Susan Kennedy. You might have missed it, however, since it was quite low-key (but entirely fitting for those two characters).
Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK) and 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
