Neighbours star Rebekah Elmaloglou has revealed how the cast of Home and Away reached out to show their support following the show's cancellation.

Elmaloglou, who plays Terese Willis on the soap, told Inside Soap that Home and Away star Ray Meagher reached out to her following the shock news that Neighbours had been axed.

"Ray Meagher called me to see how I was," she explained. "I hadn't seen him in years but he got my number from my brother who is a crew member on Home and Away.

"He told me how sorry he was and sent his love to everyone on Neighbours and said the gang at Home and Away wanted to show support and were thinking of us. I think they were quite shocked by the news as well."

The star said she was moved by the gesture, adding: "It was really sweet of him to call, and was nice to know that we have the industry behind us."

Home and Away legend Ray Meagher recently offered his thoughts on Neighbours ending, describing it as a "travesty".

"It's devastating," Meagher, who plays Alf Stewart in Summer Bay, said. "It's really sad. It was a trailblazer in that genre. Five episodes a week, sales to the BBC were a first for a soap. They were hugely successful, not just here but all around the world. It's a real travesty that it's come to an end."

Meagher's co-star Georgie Parker also recently reacted to Neighbours' axe, telling Digital Spy last month that the news was "very sad for the industry".

"It's been an incredible launch pad for so many careers and it's sad when any show comes to an end as it's the end not only of opportunities, but also an era of a long-running drama and what that gives a country and the viewing audience. It's really sad."

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 and streams on My5. In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on 10 Peach and streams on 10 Play.
