Neighbours star Bonnie Anderson explains decision to quit Bea Nilsson role

Neighbours spoilers follow for UK and Australian viewers.

Neighbours star Bonnie Anderson has discussed her decision to leave the soap, as her character Bea Nilsson exits on Australian screens next week.

10 Peach viewers will see Bea saying goodbye to Ramsay Street after splitting from her boyfriend Levi Canning and deciding to go on a planned road trip alone – wanting to reconnect with her father in Broome.

Bonnie has played Bea for three years, and said in an interview with TV Week magazine that she felt like now was the right time to leave.

"After all these years, I'd learnt so much and reached a point that I could take everything on board and was ready to continue soaring elsewhere," she said.

"Neighbours was an incredible training ground, and I'll forever be grateful for all the lessons I learnt there."

With the door left open for a potential return, Bonnie said she would "absolutely" consider reprising the role of Bea again in the future.

"It would be special to return and be reunited with everybody on-screen and off," she said.

Earlier this year, Bonnie said on co-star Sharon Johal's podcast We Are the Real Ones that she would have loved a dramatic exit.

"I didn't have a say, really," she said. "[But] I always thought it'd be so cool to do a real big death or something like that."

Bea's exit scenes will air in the UK in five weeks' time.

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK) and 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
