Neighbours star Stefan Dennis has revealed that executive producer Jason Herbison has banned him from having a beard.

Dennis’ Paul Robinson has been clean shaven in recent years, though the actor sported a different look following the cancellation of the soap on Channel 5.

The more rugged look was only a temporary one, however, with Dennis seeing both his hair and beard trimmed following the reboot on Amazon Freevee, though he revealed that it wasn’t his own personal choice.

“The reason I had the beard and long hair is because I’d finished the show - I was moving on,” he began in the clip, which was shared on Instagram. “I’ll be absolutely 100% honest with you - it was born out of laziness.

“Stefan, the actor, was never allowed to have Paul with a beard. At the time, I asked if I could have a beard because every other guy in the show had one. But Jason went ‘Nah, I don’t think so.’ Well, they were my Ramsay Street revelations.”

“Did anyone else spy a ‘new look’ Stefan Dennis whilst the show was off-air? But why did his longer locks disappear faster than Harold at sea!? Stefan explains all…” read the caption, with several fans remarking in the comments that the style suited Dennis.

I loved the non-Paul look, and was really wishing they'd allow Stefan to keep it when he returned on screen” wrote one fan, with another adding: “I actually love the beard and the hair. Would love for them to allow you to be that laid back hotel owner. ❤️”

Dennis recently teased the developments on the soap, hinting that Paul’s relationship with Terese Willis might have some legs despite his jilting at the altar.

Neighbours releases new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays for free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US. In Australia, the show airs from Mondays to Thursdays at 4pm on Channel 10, with a 6.30pm repeat screening on 10 Peach.
