Neighbours star Stefan Dennis has paid tribute to his former co-star Maxine Klibingaitis, who died "suddenly and unexpectedly" aged 58.

Her death was confirmed via a fan-run Facebook account on April 17 (via Radio Times).

Klibingaitis was best known for her portrayal of apprentice plumber Terry Inglis on Neighbours. She starred in the soap for six months back in 1985, and Terry was the first wife of veteran Neighbours character Paul Robinson, played by Dennis.

Taking to Instagram, Dennis posted a touching tribute to the actress, saying that he was saddened by her untimely death.

"Very sad to hear of the sudden passing of Maxine Klibingaitis… Paul's first wife. She was so kooky and such fun to be with. A truly gentle soul who cared so much," wrote Dennis.

Klibingaitis also appeared as punk teenager Bobbie Mitchell on Prisoner from 1983 to 1985. She was involved in many dramatic storylines including a prison break.

Her death was first announced on a fan page dedicated to Prisoner.

An admin of the page later added that "a very close friend of Maxine's" had called to share the sad news, adding: "[They] asked me to post the sad news so that Maxine's fans would know. Maxine had many fans."
