Broadway may never have “seemed so good” to fans as at the opening of Neil Diamond’s new musical, “A Beautiful Noise,” in which he gave a rousing rendition of “Sweet Caroline.”

At the end of Sunday’s show, he took the mic and belted out his iconic 1969 hit from his box seat at the Broadhurst Theatre in Manhattan. Audience members including Bernadette Peters and Clive Davis sang along with him, People reported.

Fans leapt to their feet cheering as Diamond sang with his wife Katie McNeil.

The 81-year-old singer had not performed in New York City since retiring in 2017, a year before he announced hisParkinson’s disease diagnosis.

”A Beautiful Noise” traces Diamond’s life, with his young self portrayed by Will Swenson and the older Diamond, by Mark Jacoby.
