Nemours is renovating fifth floor; JEA is finding a home for emergency operations center

Nemours Children’s Health will undergo a major overhaul to the fifth floor of the iconic hospital on downtown Jacksonville’s Southbank.

The current hematology and oncology outpatient facilities will be relocated to make room for the renovation. The permits for the project were approved this month by the Jacksonville Building Inspections Division.

The renovations at 807 Children’s Way are projected to cost nearly $4.8 million, according to the permit. The Robins & Morton Group is the contractor.

Last year the hospital announced its new name, logo and and five-year strategic plan.

JEA to relocate emergency center

JEA is about to begin work renovating an existing building so the utility can relocate its emergency operations center.

The structure is the Cologix building at 4800 Spring Park Road in Jacksonville. The renovation will cost about $1.8 million, according to the permits approved by city building inspectors this month.

Perry-McCall Construction Inc. is the contractor that will handle the work.

JEA is finishing up work on its new headquarters on Pearl Street that’s expected to be complete this fall. That headquarters is not designed to house the emergency operations center, though.

The Jacksonville Daily Record reported JEA already has some operations in the Cologix building on the Southside, so the upgrade to accommodate a relocated emergency center for the city-owned utility made sense.

The center is the central command post for the utility during full-scale emergencies such as hurricanes and other natural disasters or crisis situations.

The Cologix location, which also houses a data center for that company, emerged as the prime location after plans on Church Street ran into complications and were shelved, the Daily Record reported.
