The Nest viewers praise "brilliant" Line of Duty and Peaky Blinders stars in new BBC series
The Nest spoilers follow
BBC One aired the first episode of its new series The Nest tonight (March 22), and viewers were full of praise.
The new drama sees Martin Compston (Line of Duty) and Sophie Rundle (Peaky Blinders) star as Dan and Emily, a wealthy couple who strike up a deal with Kaya (Mirren Mack), an 18-year-old with financial struggles, to be surrogate for their baby.
In the opening episode, Emily accidentally hit Kaya with her car after she ran out in the middle of the street.
Kaya was soon struck by Emily's generous nature as she took her to the hospital and gave her money to get home. And in the luxurious interior of Emily's Range Rover, the 18-year-old quickly started to get a taste of how the other half live.
Determined to make a life for herself, Kaya saw an opportunity to make the couple a tempting offer – to be their surrogate.
However, with Kaya demanding £50,000 to carry their last remaining embryo, Dan and Emily were forced into making a difficult decision.
Can they really trust a teenager they barely know with their last chance of starting a family?
With the episode ending on a cliffhanger – as the embryo was planted inside Kaya and her close friend was mysteriously drowned in a river – viewers are now eager for the next instalment.
"Well, I thought #TheNest was bloody brilliant," tweeted one viewer. "Gripped from the start with a bold, layered script and story. What a cast! Martin was a delight and Sophie Rundle is just so good in everything she does. Mirren Mack also brilliant. Also - the best house EVER? Bring on next week!"
Another wrote: "Really great first episode of #TheNest enjoyed every minute of it. I haven't been captivated by a tv series in ages. Can't wait for the rest of it."
