Fans of Murder Mystery (and there are A LOT of you) – Netflix is giving you a sequel!

The streaming comedy reuniting Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston was a surprise smash hit for Netflix earlier this year, so it's no surprise that a follow-up movie is in the works.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix is currently working on a deal with the original movie's writer James Vanderbilt to return and write the sequel's script.

Netflix is also intent on Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston starring, but there's a bit of a snag there. THR reports that neither is currently contracted for a sequel and because the project is early in development, there are lots of different options for a story.

The whodunit format of Murder Mystery and its all-star cast could feasibly allow for one of the other members of the film's stars (like Gemma Arterton or David Walliams) to be a link between the two movies.

This could be similar to fellow comedic whodunit film Knives Out, which is being tipped to start a franchise with Daniel Craig's investigator linking a series of films with new characters in each.

In the case of Murder Mystery though, Sandler does have an overall contract to make movies with Netflix.

There is definitely no arguing that Murder Mystery was a massive hit for Netflix, seeing as the company boasted that it had been watched by close to 31 million accounts within 72 hours of release.

Murder Mystery featured Sandler and Aniston as a long-married couple whose European holiday was ruined when they were drawn into a death investigation. There's no telling yet when the sequel will arrive on Netflix.
